Dr. K. Rahman Khan

Dr. K. Rahman Khan is a Veteran Politician belonging to Indian National Congress and a former Union Minister of Minority Affairs and also Ex-Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Having graduated in commerce, a fellow chartered accountant and a D. Lit., Dr. Rahman Khan established his credential as accountancy professional before his zeal for serving people at large propelled him to join politics.

He was elected as a member of Karnataka Legislative Council in 1978 and rose to become its chairman in 1982-84 and Chairman Karnataka State Minorities Commission (Cabinet rank) in 1993-94. His recommendations after a door-to-door survey of Socio-Economic status of Minorities during his tenure as Chairman, Karnataka Minorities Commission has resulted in 4% reservation exclusively for economically backward Muslims in the State Government services and educational institutions.

He has been an active participant in the conferences convened by CPA and Inter Parliamentary Union, a body of legislatures of 140 countries that is a forum of interaction with parliamentarians and world leaders for exchange of mutual thoughts and experiences. His participation at international fora has earned him a prominent place amongst the leaders of the international community. He was elected as Honorary Internal Auditor of the I.P.U. at its 115th Assembly, Geneva for the period May 2008 to May 2009

Through his association with Al-Ameen Education Society, Bangalore, which runs several technical and other educational institutions of repute, Dr. Rahman Khan succeeded in setting up new standards of higher education for the Minorities and not only succeeded in building an institution of repute but also gave a new direction to the community at large and inspired them to build and promote educational institutions for themselves on similar pattern during last 50 years.

Dr. S. Y. Quraishi

Born on June 11, 1947, in Delhi, Dr. S.Y. Quraishi joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1971 and after holding several strategic and key positions, rose to become the 17th Chief Election Commissioner of India—the world's largest democracy. He became the first Muslim to be the CEC of India.

An alumnus of St. Stephen's College, Delhi University (M.A. History, 1969), he received a Ph.D. in Communications and Social marketing from Jamia Milia Islamia in 1992. He has authored several books including—'An Undocumented Wonder-the Making of the Great Indian Election' that describes the enormity and complexity of the Indian election, 'Old Delhi- Living Traditions', a coffee table book on the heritage city and its social and cultural life. His latest book 'The Population Myth reveals how the right-wing spin to population data has given rise to myths about the 'Muslim rate of growth', often used to stoke majoritarian fears of a demographic skew. The book busts myths about Islam and family planning.

He also founded the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management to professionalize election management and share it with the emerging democracies of the world. Over 70 countries have received training in this institute within five years. He has been a Member of the Board of Advisors of International IDEA (Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance) Stockholm since December 2012. He was also a Member of the Advisory Committee to assist and advise the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security, headed by Mr Kofi Annan (2010-12). He figured in The Indian Express's list of 50 Most Powerful Indians of 2011 and 2012 and India Today's High and Mighty Power List in 2012.Dr. Quraishi is well known in India and abroad as a development thinker and for his inclusive style of leadership and for bringing harmoniously together wide varieties of groups and institutions for achieving the common objectives of development.

Dr. Najeeb Jung

Dr. Najeeb Jung is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer who served as the 20th Lieutenant Governor of Delhi from July 2013 to December 2016. He was the 13th Vice-Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia from 2009 to 2013.

Born and raised in Delhi, Mr. Jung did Masters in History from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi. He later studied at the London School of Economics and was awarded Master of Science in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries.

Dr. Jung joined Indian Administrative Service in 1973 and was allotted the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He served as Collector and District Magistrate and as Managing Director of the M.P. Oilseeds Federation and Managing Director of the M.P. Financial Corporation. In the Government of India, he served in the Ministry for Railways, the Ministry of Steel and as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He has been a Senior Energy Specialist at the Asian Development Bank, Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, University of Oxford and Director for Energy Research at the Observer Research Foundation, Delhi.

He was the Chairman of a Core Committee of Vice-Chancellors appointed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India, to examine various aspects of higher education, Chairman of a Committee to review the existing schemes for enhancing participation of minorities in higher education, Member of the Special Task Force set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, to suggest developmental options for the Jammu region of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, Member of the Senate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and several other Committees at the national level. He has also been a Director on the Board of the Reserve Bank of India.

He has published several monographs and reports on the energy sector and is a regular contributor to national newspapers on education and social issues. Mr. Jung's published works include two monographs on Natural Gas in Asia and Europe; an anthology of essays titled: "The Political Economy of energy and Growth; and a compilation of essays titled: "The Sting if a Bee". He has also penned a book on contemporary social, cultural and political issues in Urdu titled "Fikr o Agahi". His latest publication is the complete translation of Mirza Ghalib's Diwan. The book is titled: "Sareer e Khama".

Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah

Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah, PVSM, SM, VSM, born 15 August 1948, is an alumnus of St Joseph's College, Nainital, National Defence Academy, (Khadakwasla), Indian Military Academy, (Dehra Dun), Defence Services Staff College, (Wellington), War College, (Mhow) and National Defence College, (New Delhi). He was commissioned into 185 Light Regiment (Camel Pack) and commanded 170 Field Regiment (where his son also held a commission). He also has had considerable experience in the fields of Diplomacy (Defence Attache in Saudi Arabia 1994-97), Judiciary (Armed Forces Tribunal 2009-2012) and Education (VC of AMU (2012-17). He holds a Master's Degree in Defence Studies & Management from Madras University (1980) and M Phil from Devi Ahilya University, Indore, (1993) and was conferred the 'Honoris Causa', the Doctor of Letters, on 11 November 2014 by Integral University, Lucknow, India.

He participated with his Regiment in 1971 at the Battle of Longewala (Jaisalmer Sector). During Operation 'PARAKRAM', the General Officer commanded 'Bison' Division, of a Strike Corps, which was instrumental in quelling the riots in Gujarat in 2002. He subsequently commanded Bengal Area and Spear Corps, involved in combating insurgency in five North East States. The General held the appointment of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Planning & Systems) from 01 Oct 2006 to 31 Aug 2008 and was responsible for modernization and management and control of the Army budget.

The General has authored the bestselling autobiography, 'The Sarkari Mussalman' (Which he asserts he is not as it was used as a pun). His columns, on myriad subjects, have appeared in India Today, Force Magazine, Indian Express, Tribune, Print and Pen News. He often appears on the national media discussing important national issues and has spoken at Jaipur Lit Festival. Apeejay Kolkata Lit Fest, Kalinga Lit Fest (Bhubaneshwar)and Military Lit Fest (Chandigarh). He has travelled widely in India, West Asia, SE Asia, Africa, Europe and North America.

Mr. Saeed Mustafa Shervani

Mr. Saeed Mustafa Shervani is the son of the Late M R Shervani who was the founder of Geep flashlight Industries a famous torch light brand of the 70's. The family took part in freedom struggle and his grand uncle Tasaduq Shervani was a contemporary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and his father was a former member of Rajya Sabha.

Mr. Shervani is the Managing Director of Star Hotels Pvt. Ltd., which has been in the Hospitality business for the last 35 years. He is an alumnus of the Institute of Hotel Management, Pusa, New Delhi. Apart from managing his business, Mr. Shervani has been on the Board of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI), the leading Hotel & Restaurant Association of India with over 4500 members for over 20 years and was elected as its President in the year 2013.

He has also been the President of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India for two years and became the President of Uttarakhand Hotel and Restaurant Association when the state was just formed. He is one of the founder members of the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH) which is a Federation of ten National Hospitality Associations. He was also the Honorary Secretary of Faith for two terms.

He was on the Board of Governors of Institute of Hotel Management, Lucknow and is presently on the Board of Governors of the Institute of Hotel Management, Pusa, New Delhi, the premier Hotel Management Institute of India.

Mr. Shahid Siddiqui

Mr. Shahid Siddiqui is the National Vice President RLD. He has been a member of the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Indian Parliament representing the state of Uttar Pradesh from 2002 to 2008. He is former Vice Chairman of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Chairman and Chairman Interfaith Peace Foundation. He is a journalist and the chief editor of the Nai Duniya, an Urdu weekly published from New Delhi.

Born in 1951 to a family of journalists and writers, He showed interest in writing in the Urdu language when he was twelve years old. He studied political science at Zakir Husain Delhi College (then known as Delhi College) and in 1971, merely a year into college, he started an Urdu fortnightly titled Waqiat. Mr. Siddiqui was a leader of Students' Federation of India during his university days. Waqiat closed down in 1973 and Mr. Siddiqui revived the daily newspaper Nai Duniya as a weekly magazine in the same year, whilst still being a university student. He went on to teach political science at Desh bandhu College, Delhi University from 1974 to 1986.

His father, Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, was a journalist and a leader in India's freedom movement. Mr. Shahid was the youngest among his siblings. His eldest brother Mr. Ahmed Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi was an author and the editor of several Urdu dailies including Nai Duniya. His brother Mr. Khalid Mustafa Siddiqui was the editor of Urdu digests Huma and Pakeeza Anchal and Hindi magazine Mahekta Anchal.

Mr. M. Asif Farooqui

Mr M. Asif Farooqui is an alumnus of Indian Institute of management, Ahmedabad, one of the premier institutes of management in India. He has been the Chancellor's Nominee to the Court and Member of Executive Council, Aligarh Muslim University. He was also Director of NAWADCO (National Waqf Development Corporation Ltd.), Ministry of Minority Affairs, Govt. Of India.

With an ambition to contribute to the economic and social development in India, he has been associated with one of the oldest and largest minority educational organisation in India— Anjuman-i-Islam Board, Mumbai founded by Dr. Badruddin Tyabji, 3rd President of Indian National Congress Party. It has built and manages more than eighty institutions from pre-primary schools to graduate and postgraduate level colleges of every discipline. He, along with his family has also been involved with the management of Shibli National College, Azamgarh—one of the oldest institutions of higher education in North India.

As a director of "Tahera & Idris Farooqui Foundation", he has adopted Schools to impart secular and modern education along with computer literacy and IT skills programs. Through the efforts of his own and his family funds, the foundation has been successful in reviving these schools which were virtually closed. Today, more than 1000 children belonging to poor families and BPL families are attending these schools.

As a Gen. Secretary, Pali Village Residents' Civic Forum (MumbaiMunicipality Reg. No. 117), he has been actively involved in organising the Area Locality Management scheme in Bandra, Mumbai. The schemes have brought all the residents under a single umbrella and organized awareness for civic issues, besides, safe-street initiatives, cleanliness drive and environment protection programs.

Prof. Furqan Qamar

Prof. Furqan Qamar is presently Chief Advisor to the Chancellor at Integral University. Lucknow. He retired as Professor of Management at the Centre for Management Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He has served as the Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the largest and one of the oldest networks of universities in the world.

In his illustrious career, Dr. Qamar has held the position of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajasthan and the Central University of Himachal Pradesh. He has also served as Advisor (Education) in the Planning Commission of India.

He has keen research interest in public policy, planning, administration and financing of higher education and has numerous publications in journals of repute to his credit. Prof. Kavita A. Sharma

Prof. Kavita A. Sharma, former President of South Asian University, New Delhi, is a distinguished academician whose contributions to higher education span over five decades. Beginning her career in 1971 as a faculty member at Hindu College, University of Delhi, she went on to serve as its principal from 1998 to 2008. Thereafter, she took over as Director of the India International Centre, New Delhi, serving from August 2008 until October 2014. She was appointed President of South Asian University in November 2014 and held the position until 2019.

Prof. Sharma holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Delhi for her thesis titled Byron's Plays: A Reassessment (1978). She also earned an M.A. and a B.A. (Hons.) in English from the same university. Her interdisciplinary academic background includes an LL.B. from the University of Delhi (1981) and an LL.M. from the University of British Columbia, Canada (1984).

Over the years, Prof. Sharma has held several academic and administrative positions, including visiting lectureships at Tokyo Women's Christian College (1974–75) and the University of Indonesia (1977–78). Her research and scholarship have been enriched by prestigious fellowships such as the Fulbright New Century Scholar (2007–08) for research on "Higher Education in the 21st Century: Access and Equity," as well as multiple fellowships from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

He is also the President of the Food Industry Skill Council under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

An alumnus of Delhi University with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Hons.) and a Master's in International Business from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Mr. Chaudhry has been actively involved with various industry bodies, including the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), and the U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC).

Ms. Riva Ganguly Das

Ms. Riva Ganguly Das is a distinguished Indian diplomat and retired civil servant, renowned for her extensive contributions to India's foreign relations over a career spanning more than three decades. Born on December 24, 1961, she joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1986 after completing her postgraduate studies in Political Science from the University of Delhi.

Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Das held several key positions that significantly influenced India's diplomatic engagements. She served as the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, where she played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral ties. Prior to this, she was appointed as the Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), promoting India's cultural diplomacy on a global scale.

Ms. Das's diplomatic assignments also included serving as the Ambassador of India to Romania, with concurrent accreditation to Albania and Moldova. Her overseas postings encompassed roles such as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in The Hague and Consul General in Shanghai and New York.

At the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, she held various significant positions, including Head of the Public Diplomacy Division and Director of the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Division, where she was involved in negotiations on environmental issues, particularly climate change. She also led the Latin America & Caribbean Division, enhancing India's outreach in those regions.

Ms. Das retired in December 2021 as Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, a role in which she oversaw India's diplomatic relations with countries in East and Southeast Asia. Post-retirement, she continues to contribute to policy discussions and is a member of the Governing Council at Asian Confluence, a think tank focused on regional cooperation.

Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood

Dr. Syed Mahmood Akhter

Dr. Syed Mahmood Akhter, a former IRS officer, brings over 35 years of distinguished service in the Government of India. He currently serves as the CEO of the Alliance for Economic and Educational Development of the Underprivileged (AEEDU), a pioneering organization committed to empowering underprivileged students through education and economic development.

Mr. Akhter; a gold medallist in English Literature in first class from Ranchi University, began his career serving as a Lecturer at St. Columba's College, Hazaribagh, where he inspired students through teaching and organizing academic and cultural activities. He later joined the Indian Revenue Service, excelling in roles across Customs and in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India (on Central Deputation)

In his government tenure, he held key positions in Kolkata, Delhi, Pune, and Amritsar Customs, managing trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, and cross-border trade. As Director in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, he was instrumental in implementing minority welfare schemes, amending the Wakf Act, and restructuring the Maulana Azad Foundation. He led a govt delegation to His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Yunus, Chairman of the Gramin Bank.

Internationally, Mr. Akhter represented India in SAARC and BIMSTEC forums, liaised with global stakeholders, and facilitated educational and cultural exchanges. During his tenure as First Secretary at the Indian Consulate in Birgunj, Nepal, he led relief operations post the 2015 earthquake and fostered cultural engagement with the Nepalese minority communities. He has officially travelled across practically half the word. He has been trained by the US Homeland Security in the UAE.

As a Consultant Director in the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), he oversaw the admission and welfare of 8,000 foreign students in Indian universities and selected Indian professors for prestigious global academic chairs. His exceptional contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the National Samman Award and the Bureaucrat of the Year Award in 2007.

Currently Chairman & Managing Trustee of the Maulana Azad Educational Trust, Aurangabad, Mr. Farhat Jamal has been managing eight colleges with diverse streams and two schools with a student population of over twelve thousand.

An alumnus of Institute of Hotel Management, Pusa, New Delhi, he received his CHA—Certified Hotel Administrator form American Hotel and Educational Institute. He completed Cornell University Program for General Managers at the National university of Singapore in 1993 and also participated in a short training program for Senior Managers at Cornell University.

He is a seasoned hospitality professional having worked with IHCL (Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces) India's leading hotel Group for over three decades and for over six years with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, the leading hospitality group of South East Asia headquartered in Hong Kong. He has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 for Contribution to Hospitality Industry by Pacific Area Travel Writers Association, ITB, Berlin. He has been selected among the 100 most influential people in the Hospitality Industry-2013, Hotelier India

Before he retired, he was the Sr Vice President-Operations (West and Africa) and Advisor- Special Projects with (IHCL) Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces. Post his retirement he worked as Group Advisor- Hospitality, Hiranandani Group, Mumbai for two years. Has been on Boards of several subsidiary companies of the IHCL and chaired various committees. Presently Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Hotel Management- Aurangabad.
