Mr Shahid Siddiqui
Mr Shahid Siddiqui is a senior journalist, educationist, parliamentarian, and social reformer. He was professor of Political Science in University of Delhi from 1974 to 1986. He launched Weekly Nai Duniya in 1973 as a student and has been its Chief Editor since then. As a journalist he has been writing in English, Urdu and Hindi and regularly appearing on various national news channels as a political analyst. He was member of Rajya Sabha from 2002 to 2008. Member of National Integration Council from 2000 onwards. As vice Chairman of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language he worked for digitalisation of Urdu as early as 1994 and brought about a revolution in dissemination of Urdu language and publications.
Shahid Siddiqui was the Chairman of Congress Minority Cell, General Secretary of Samajwadi Party and at present is the National Vice President of Rashtriye Lok Dal.
Shahid Siddiqui has been working for modernisation of Madrasas from early 80s and helped in introducing computer education in many madrasas. He also worked for improving the quality of education in Muslim institutions in Western Uttar Pradesh, specially education of Muslim girls.
Born in 1951, in Ballimaran Delhi, in a family of journalists and writers. His father Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui was one of the pioneers of Urdu journalism and published first weekly newspaper from Deoband in 1914. His family published some of the most popular Urdu magazines like Huma Urdu Digest, Pakeeza Aanchal, fortnightly Waqiat, HUDA Islami Digest, and Taha and Mehekta Aanchal in Hindi.
Shahid Siddiqui has been writing in Urdu from an early age and has interviewed most leaders, Prime Ministers and international personalities in the country and internationallyHe published his first English Novel ‘The Golden Pigeon’ in 2016, published by Harper Collins. He is an avid traveler who has traveled across seven continents to more then 70 countries.
